Challenge:
A six-month old baby awaiting a heart transplant was wheeled into the operating room for a life-saving procedure at a Wisconsin hospital when doctors made a stunning discovery: They did not have the necessary components for a ventricular assist device that would keep the baby alive until a donor heart could be found.
Solution:
The call went out from the Massachusetts-based device maker to ICAT Logistics Detroit, which literally flew into action. ICAT collected components in Ann Arbor, chartered an aircraft to fly to Milwaukee, and coordinated the final delivery to the hospital, providing email updates every step of the way to all concerned parties. Less than five hours after the call was made, a courier arrived at the hospital with the components in hand.
Big Picture:
A baby’s life was saved.
“We extend a wholehearted thank you to you and the entire ICAT team for coming through in a truly life-or-death situation,” the manager of the medical device maker wrote us. “THANK YOU!”
More than ever, we were glad to help.
