After Years of Delays and Incorrect Parts, This International Shipment Couldn’t Fail Again

Challenge

What started in 2022 as a standard international shipment turned into a multi-year challenge involving incorrect parts, return logistics, production delays, and mounting operational pressure.

The customer originally ordered parts from Germany in 2022 and received delivery in 2023. After arrival, they discovered the parts had been manufactured incorrectly and did not fit.

The shipment had already failed once.

ICAT Detroit assisted with returning the original parts back to Germany while the customer and manufacturer worked through additional measurements, refinements, and production adjustments over the following months.

By early 2026, replacement parts were finally ready for shipment. But by that point, the pressure surrounding the delivery had grown significantly.

The customer faced a narrow timeline to:

  • Receive the shipment in Gibsonton, Florida
  • Set up the ride
  • Confirm the new parts fit correctly
  • Complete testing and repairs
  • Disassemble the ride
  • Prepare it for shipment to Winnipeg, Manitoba for summer operations across Canada

After years of setbacks, delays, and uncertainty, the customer was understandably nervous about whether the shipment would arrive on time – and whether the replacement parts would finally work.

Another failed shipment was not an option.

The customer’s primary concern was speed. Under normal shipping conditions, the shipment would have required approximately 45-50 days door-to-door from Germany to Florida.

That timeline put the entire schedule at risk.

Our Solution

To help the customer meet their deadline, ICAT Detroit redesigned the shipping strategy to reduce transit time and keep the project moving forward.

Instead of relying on a standard routing process, ICAT Detroit coordinated:

  • Exclusive truck pickup directly from the shipper
  • Cargo transfer through the agent’s facility in Hamburg, Germany
  • Loading into two 40-foot containers
  • Direct delivery to Hamburg Port
  • Booking on a direct vessel from Hamburg Port to Norfolk Port
  • Exclusive truck transportation from Norfolk Port to Gibsonton, Florida

By optimizing the routing strategy and minimizing delays throughout the process, ICAT Detroit reduced the shipment’s total transit time from 45-50 days down to just 38 days.

Throughout the shipment, the operations team maintained communication and shipment visibility to help keep the customer informed and reduce the stress surrounding the move.

What initially felt like a stressful and uncertain situation became a coordinated logistics solution focused on speed, execution, and reliability.

Big Picture

This shipment represented far more than simply moving cargo from Germany to Florida. For the customer, it represented the final phase of a long-running challenge that had already involved years of delays, manufacturing issues, return shipments, and operational uncertainty.

Because the shipment arrived within the required timeline, the customer’s crew was able to:

  • Set up the ride
  • Confirm the replacement parts fit correctly
  • Begin testing and repairs
  • Continue preparations for summer operations in Canada

Most importantly, the shipment helped bring closure to a project that had been ongoing for years.

At ICAT Detroit, we help customers manage time-critical international freight shipments where timing, coordination, and execution directly impact operations. From expedited international freight forwarding and project cargo logistics to urgent global transportation solutions, our team supports shipments where delays simply are not an option.
